New project! Developing PD for teacher teams focused on learning to recognize students' metalinguistic knowledge during translanguaging lessons, and collaboratively co-creating new instructional practices that connect to disciplinary literacy goals.
Project TRANSLATE (Lyle Spencer funded, 2019-2022)
In 2019, Project TRANSLATE was awarded a Lyle Spencer Research Award to conduct a three-year, mixed methods study of the TRANSLATE approach in four states.
SLATE (Strategic Language Approaches for Teachers of Emergent multilinguals)
A 2019 study investigating how a diverse group of secondary school teachers perceived the challenges and benefits of enacting translanguaging strategies and how they overcame challenges to adapting these strategies for their own instructional purposes.
Project TRANSLATE (early development and dissertation)
Design-based research project developing an instructional approach using collaborative translation to leverage the language skills of multilingual students for literacy learning in a variety of settings. Listed publications fall under Vanderbilt IRB.
